The Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym is fairly easy to assembly. The instructions are illustrated and clear enough to follow rather easily. The packing provides you with Allen wrenches, but you’ll still need an adjustable wrench and a couple screwdrivers to get the job done. The assembly process should only take you 2-3 hours to compete.

The Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym markets itself as being able to provide over 30 different exercises. The exercises hit every major muscle group with upper, mid-range and lower pulleys. You’ll be able to hot your chest, shoulders and back as well as your arms, abs and legs. Generally, when you think of Bowflex a large price tag might flash in your mind, but with the PR1000 Home Gym that is not the case. This is one of the cheapest pulley-based home gyms available. There are some others that compete like the Marcy MWM-990 Home Gym, the Weider Home Gym or the Gold’s Gym XRS50 Home Gym. Make sure you check out our reviews of these gyms. However, you can’t beat an intense workout like you’ll get on a Bowflex machine.

Resistance

While we can’t complain about the smooth performance of the Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym resistance system, there are a few minor issues to mention.  First, it might never be an issue for you but the resistance can’t go above 210 lbs. and it cannot be upgraded like other Bowflex models.  Next, over time, the Bowflex Power Rods are known for losing their elasticity and resistance. Lastly, the 5 year warranty on the rods does not cover normal wear and tear. So regardless of when this starts to happen for you, you may need to shell out some more money for new Power Rods.  Overall, not deal breakers.

Final Word on the Bowflex PR1000 Home Gym:

At half the price of the Bowflex PR3000 Home Gym, the PR1000 is a good choice for someone who doesn’t need an advanced home gym. The major differences between the PR1000 Home Gym and its big brother is that the resistance cannot be upgraded beyond 210 lbs. Another big difference is that you must realign your cables between upper and lower pulley exercises. If those concerns don’t worry you then the extremely affordable PR1000 Home Gym is probably the Bowflex machine that you’re looking for
